Certified Exercise Instructor
Certified and Licensed Massage Therapist

I am a Certified Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program Instructor who has been teaching land-based and aquatic exercises since 1998. I provide individual training and education in exercise in addition to teaching exercise classes.

Exercising is one of the best things that you can do for yourself if you suffer from the pain and inflammation of arthritis. If you have arthritis pain in any of your joints or any kind of deformity caused by arthritis of the feet, knees, hips, hands or back ,you can and should participate in regular arthritis exercise therapy.

There are three types of exercises that help to contribute to overall fitness and well-being: Range-of-motion, stregthening exercises, and aerobics.

My experience includes working in the Physical Therapy Department of a hospital for five years. In Physical Therapy, range-of-motion exercises are a critical part of the treatment for patients who have arthritis.

Range-of-motion exercises keep joints flexible and make it easier to function in activities of daily living. 'Range-of-motion' means how far (how much) you can move a joint in any direction.

Strong muscles are a vital part of good health and fitness, and I have incorporated yoga stretches into the work-out. This type of stretching moves the muscles but not the joints, building strength and minimizing pain.

Aerobic exercises are done to improve and increase endurance. Endurance exercises are very necessary, because it increases stamina; how long you can do an activity without becoming tired.

When people have arthritis, they may need heat or cold application before and/ or after exercising. If the joint is inflamed, or warm, a cold application is suggested. Cold reduces swelling and numbs the pain. If the joint is painful and you move it with difficulty, then heat is recommended. An application of heat will relax and calm the muscles and nerves.

Massage therapy is also beneficial for arthritis. With massage therapy, manual stimulation is applied and that helps to relieve arthritis symptoms. Manual stimulation increases blood and lymph flow and serves to relax and calm the body and mind.

Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States. There are over 100 different diseases that affect the muscles and tendons that result in pain and limited mobility.

Exercise is recommended by The Arthritis Foundation and by health professionals for those who suffer from this disease. Since I've been working with people that have arthritis, I have been able to help them move their joints easier, maintain strong muscles, and improve their stamina.

I am passionate about taking good care of one's mind, body and spirit, and I believe that my arthritis exercise program, as well as the healing effects of massage therapy, is beneficial and necessary for one's overall well-being.
